Q: How is a hat made?
A: There are three main processes that go in to making a Yestadt original
Step One: Material selection. The materials we are of the highest quality and are selected based on style and function.
Step Two: Blocking. The shape and size of the hat are determined through the wooden form in which the materials are molded. Through applying heat and steam, the raw material takes on the shape of the block (form) and are left to set and dry.
Step Three: Trimming. After the hat has dried and set, it is then taken off the block for finishing. Through draping, pleating, and stitching the finishing details are in the movement of the trim.
Q: What size am I?
A: Our standard sizing runs as follows:
We are happy to make special sizing upon request.
To find your head-size, use a flexible measuring tape made of plastic or cloth. Measure circumference of head just above top of ear. Wrap tape gently around head making certain tape lies midway on your occipital bone (that little bump in the middle of the back of your head.)
*Don't pull the tape too tightly or your hat will fit that tightly. Measure 2 or 3 times to be accurate.
Q: How do I care for my hat?
- Store in a hat box or in a cool space with a flat surface
- If it is felt, brush lightly with a clean soft suede brush
- If it is straw, wipe down gently with a damp cloth or baby wipe.
- Don't wear it in the rain, though if it does get wet let dry flat away from heat
Q: Im not really a hat person, where do I start?
A: If your hat will be for everyday, start with your wardrobe; which styles will work with my coat, tunic, swimsuit? We generally suggest starting with our Nomad packable hat. Its easy to wear and looks good on many different shaped faces.
If you are shopping for an occasion, its all about attitude- cock your hat, angles are attitudes. We are happy to have you to our studio to try on new styles and fits!
